What is Lung cancer?


Lung cancer develops in the lungs and one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in the US, among both men and women. Lung cancer affects more lives than colon, prostate, ovarian, and breast cancer. Those who smoke have the greatest risk of lung cancer, but lung cancer can also occur in those who have never smoked. Quitting smoking at any time can reduce your risk of developing lung cancer significantly.
 

Who is impacted?


Risk factors for developing lung cancer may increase if you are:

  • Exposed to secondhand smoke
  • Exposed to radon gas
  • Exposed to asbestos and other carcinogens
  • Family history of lung cancer

How is Lung cancer diagnosed?


Lung cancer is diagnosed by one or more of the following:
  • Imaging tests
  • Sputum cytology
  • Tissue sample (biopsy)

How is Lung cancer treated?


Treatment for Lung cancer can be done by:

  • Radiation therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiosurgery
